The method
- Give each flight a row containing its date, operating airline and booked fare. Open the relevant baggage page and save its address. A rule for another airline does not complete this row.
- Measure and weigh each bag, then compare it with the applicable conditions. Keep included baggage, purchased options and missing information separate. Check unusual items with the appropriate authority.
- Recheck the card after any itinerary change. List essentials you want accessible, while keeping identity documents and booking references out of a shared notebook.
Fictional worked example
On a fictional two-flight journey, the first booking includes a baggage option while the second still needs checking. Separate rows prevent extending the option to the whole journey.
The record to keep
Keep rule references and measurements with the checking date. Store personal information separately.
Your record, step by step
For your own situation, record the following information. Check a field when it is documented; missing information still needs verification. The boxes are a reminder within this page.
This checklist does not validate your project. No entries are sent or saved.
Fictional worked case. A fictional trip uses two carriers. Dimensions and options below are exercise values only.
| Element | Observation in the case | Interpretation or next check |
|---|---|---|
| First leg | Stated allowance: 55 × 40 × 20 cm | Keep all dimensions with the relevant service |
| Second leg | Another option: 45 × 35 × 20 cm | Do not extend the first rule to this leg |
| Own bag | External measurement: 50 × 36 × 20 cm | Compare each dimension, not just volume |
| Unspecified option | Booking does not state checked baggage | Check the booking rather than assume inclusion |
What this method can establish
The card does not guarantee boarding acceptance or replace security rules and updated carrier conditions.
Useful questions before you start
Does one option cover every flight?
Check its scope in your booking and obtain confirmation for the relevant segments.
Should I copy a general allowance?
Use the rule matching the actual operator, ticket and booked flight.
Why not keep only the most generous rule?
Each carrier and option applies to a particular leg. A condition on the first journey does not establish one for the return or connection.
