A concrete use case

Document a space mission

Trace an image or announcement to its mission, instrument and dated publication.

Check first: Distinguish measured results, visualisations and projected milestones.

Our worked method

Choose a space illustration with its credit

Image record
Identify origin and rights holders.
File conditions
Examine the intended use.
  1. Open the record instead of an isolated image.
  2. Record the credit and any stated licence.
  3. Compare the intended use with the file’s conditions.

Fictional example: an educator wants to illustrate a mission worksheet. Two similar images carry different credits. She retains the chosen image’s record and prepares the appropriate credit instead of attributing every website image to one owner.

Your useful record: Record, exact credit and conditions for the intended use.

Appearance on ESA’s website does not automatically authorize every commercial use.
